Sealed Earth Ceramic Art Studio and Gallery presents its second summer group exhibition entitled “EMERGEncy”, taking place from June 24th to July 2nd, 2021.
“Unforeseen occurrence requiring immediate attention”
“To rise from or out of anything that surrounds, covers, or conceals; come forth; appear, as from concealment”
Focusing on contemporary interpretations of ceramics in combination with and influences from all other visual media, the exhibition “EMERGEncy” includes ceramic sculptures, photographs, 3D prints, virtual design works, video simulation, and installations created by fifteen renowned and up-and-coming visual artists based in Athens during the 2020 pandemic, restrictive measures, and lockdown.
The exhibition approaches the issue of emergency in the dark days of 2020 in Athens and the world by emphasizing the concept of caring for a group of people who maintained artistic contact during their unexpected exclusion. The spirit of reciprocity that developed, served as an incentive for them to emerge and recover and as a creative food for the participants and resonates loudly through the projects presented.
Along with the works of the 15 artists, objects created in the studio by a group of people under the guidance of Hope and Loukia Thomopoulou will be presented as part of the few lessons that took place.
