A two-day workshop on the 26th and 27th of February on the ancient technique of bucchero
Bucchero is an ancient art of the pre-Roman era which belonged to the Etruscan tradition. In bucchero ceramics, the shape is more important than any decorative effect. In this workshop, participants will learn some of the secrets of the technique from a ceramics master.
We will learn the technique of “bucchero” (“smoking” of clay at 900 degrees Celsius, in a firebox), fired in an electric oven. The dry pieces will be covered with terra sigillata that we will make during the workshop, for a nicer finish and a deeper tan. Starting with a cylinder raised with a clay sheet, we will also explore multiple ways to transform it into sculptures.
Discover the foundations of this art and understand the uniqueness of the craft as you learn to shape an object. The unexpected surprise is understanding that it’s possible to create a modern object with such an ancient technique in a game of liberating creativity that will be able to open new paths for us.
