Sealed Earth Gallery is pleased to announce its inaugural exhibition at Santorini featuring the works of esteemed Greek ceramic artist, George Vavatsis. The solo show, showcasing Vavatsis’ unique artistic vision, will be a captivating display of his exploration of soil, minerals, and the medium of ceramics.

George Vavatsis is renowned for his profound understanding and extensive research on the soil and minerals he incorporates into his art. With a deep connection to the earth, he carefully collects soil and minerals from various locations across Greece, meticulously recording their individual stories and characteristics. These minerals become a diary, chronicling the artist’s journey and providing the foundation for his breathtaking creations.

Vavatsis is unveiling a collection of artworks crafted using a captivating blend of minerals, metals, and clay. His masterful use of these materials enables him to visualize landscapes using clay as his drawing line he brings them to life through his art.

Through this exhibition, we invite you to delve into the geological processes that occurred long before our intervention, fostering an understanding of our place within the natural world. These geological calendars, capture the essence of an endless voyage. The volumes created in their honor celebrate the interconnectedness of art, nature, and human experience, blurring the boundaries between past and present.

We invite art enthusiasts and nature lovers alike to immerse themselves in this mesmerizing collection.

George Vavatsis was born in 1974 in Thessaloniki, Greece, where he currently lives and works. He studied Visual & Live Art at Cheltenham & Gloucester C.H.E. UK. In 2000, he opened his first pottery studio in Thessaloniki, Greece, where he explored as many aspects of ceramics art as possible for over 20 years. He has mostly experimented with clay types, glaze formulas, natural sources, and wheel throwing. He is an honorable member of the International Academy of Ceramics and he has presented his work in many solo and group shows in Greece and Turkey. Recently his work has been presented at Lola Nikolaou Art Gallery, Thessaloniki, (2023), Andronikos Sagianos Gallery (2022), Kerameon Ixni, Ancient Olympia (2021), Hellenic American Union, Athens (2021) and Chris Boicos Fine Arts, Paris (2019) to name a few.
