ONE OF A KIND
I use clay to create hybrids, where I connect human and animal physical characteristics to bring about newly imagined beings. In doing so, I try to visualise alternative imaginaries to our current classification system in which (western, able-bodied) humans assume a hierarchical and dichotomised position over the natural world. Through these works, I aim to capture a liminal point- a chimeric becoming that questions the binary oppositions between human and animal, nature and culture. The human is thus ‘reborn’ as another; becoming more bodily, and spiritually interconnected to its surroundings. The painting for me will act as a portal. I want to create an interplay between the painterly and the sculptural as if the cats emerged out of the painting.
