A two-day workshop on the 21st and 22nd of January
Kurinuki means ‘to hollow out’. It is a Japanese subtractive method of making pots by starting with a solid shape and carving the pot out of it. Take a block of clay and any type of tool and slowly whittle it into the clay to search for a form. There’s no throwing, pinching or coiling; just discovery by digging. The technique is simple and accessible to all, no special equipment is needed.
On this workshop artist Giorgos Tserionis will demonstrate how he carves pots from a solid shape of clay. Day one will include technique description, picture presentation, clay preparation, and creation of your own special wire cutting tool while on the second day you will create an object or sculptural form and color it, followed by a group discussion.
