A two-day workshop on the 15th and 16th of October
Nerikomi is a traditional Japanese technique where colored clays are used to create intricate patterns. This two-day workshop is suitable for absolute beginners and those with prior ceramic experience.
In this workshop, we will focus on the varied results achieved using Nerikomi through a presentation with selected pictures and examples. Participants will be introduced to creating Nerikomi patterns by creating their own tests. Participants will start by rolling slabs and coils, combining different colors and shapes to create their desired pattern, then they’ll use the building techniques to create their own three-dimensional pieces. Nerikomi, (練り込み) meaning “kneading,” is a Japanese term to describe the method of creating patterns with colored clay. The technique is also called neriage.
